| So, class began Monday. One of my classes was canceled on the first day and another was permanently canceled. The permanent one I didn't find out about until the second day of class. Wow. Go school. So, since it is a class that I need to graduate, the department head let me, and others in the same boat, into a higher level similar class, ANTH 439. Well, this class is for graduate credit! It's not too bad, she let us off the final paper, but we still have tons of papers, readings, and presentations! The final presentation is 40 MINUTES! ;_;
The best thing about the class is that it only has nine people in it, five of which meant to take the other class. So talking shouldn't be too horrible. And supposedly the final presentation is more of a facilitating of discussion or some sort.
I thought that this semester was going to be easier than the last but I think I am wrong. :(
On the good side, I am graduating this semester! :D And I am definitely coming back to take four more classes to get my anthropology bachelors and a bachelors in graphic design! I might not ever get to grad school, but I'll have three bachelors! I am such a nerd. | | comments: Leave a comment |

| So, um, Merry Christmas? Yeah, I know, I'm five days late. So, I got some knitting books, some cash, and some IOUs.
I've been meaning to go into work but have been way too lazy. I figured next week I will. I've been trying to finish two knitting presents for my mother and Victoria but I'm still way behind.
And, I appear to have no plans for New Year's Eve either. What an exciting life. :D

| So, I had jury duty this morning! :D I didn't get seated on a case, though I sort of wished I was, but I did come very close. But first, let me tell you about the CRAP videos they made us watch! The first one was like "Jury duty is AwEsOmE11!" Seriously, trying to sell the idea of jury duty. It had NO relevant information. The part that made me laugh the most (yes, I laughed out loud at jury duty) was a jab at communism. Wow, yes, during this infomercial something to the effect of "and now trial by jury is even coming to communist countries. Now they can be free and equal like us! :D" was spoken. Ok, back up, first, let's talk about the abuse of the term "communism." Communism is, in its true sense, more equal than the democracy that we have here. It's based on complete equality. The "communist" countries the video was referring to are DICTATORSHIPS.
The second movie made some crap statement that trial by jury has helped defend the Constitution which gives us the freedom of speech, (something I can't remember), and the freedom of privacy. Ok, first, the Constitution does not give any rights, the Bill of Rights does. And second, I don't recall there actually being a "freedom of privacy" stated explicitly anywhere in the Bill of Rights.

Ok, these could be common mistakes, but let's examine the context of these mistakes. Movies made to educate potential jury members being shown in a county court house. It makes me wonder where the people that Jay Leno asks questions to about our country come from...

| So, yesterday was um, interesting. I saw my father for the first time in about nine years. I wasn't as upset as I thought I would be. He's like a stranger to me or a weird extended family member that you only see during the holidays. And he's very old looking. He's only 50 but he looks like he's in his 60's. It was weird. He wasn't too upsetting but my two uncles are jack-asses. Total sexist pigs. It's so nice when your family members tell you it's a "man's world" and that you can't do what you want. I hate that family so much. I want nothing to do with them. I'm completely surprised (and happy) that my father isn't like that. At least not that I know of. I do know that he is very proud of me going to school and whatnot and that makes me happy.
Regardless, I do not want to be associated with that family. I think that I have decided to take my mother's birth name. Not just because of crappy family but her name is way better sounding, lol.
Both my uncle and and aunt harped on my to see him again. Which irritates the hell out of me. They don't seem to consider my feelings in any of this. I was told that "it means a lot to him." Well gee, it meant a lot to me that he would be around for the last nine years but that didn't change a damn thing did it? Gar. So, before writing this I didn't want to see him again. But now I think I might want to. I don't know how much longer he will be around and I don't want to regret not seeing him if I have the chance. | | comments: Leave a comment |

| Nick and his new fling, Geoffrey (of course it's more fun to call him Geee-off) came down this Saturday. Unfortunately they came down at like 7:00 in the evening. But we went out for, guess, more sushi! And were totally awesome in paying for Will and me claiming that it was "for my birthday." Thanks Geee-off! :D Then we went back to Will and my place to listen to some Brian Regan while I knitted. I have about 7 inches on my scarf! It's my first real knitting project and I already had to start over a ton of times. My next project will be...another scarf! But for Will. He doesn't like them but said he would wear it if I made it.

| Yay! It's birthday time! ^________^!
So, I'm stuck here at school all day. :( Will and I are celebrating tomorrow. No presents until then. But I did get one last night, an awesome book that has a collection of articles from a webpage I read periodically, worldchanging.com.
Also, the new student union opened today. Sort of neat. They have this Godiva-like chocolate store there that I can't imagine will last all that long. But they did have a TON of yummy cake samples. So I got my cake and ate it too!
My mom came down yesterday. I told her for my birthday I wanted her to help me put the rest of my shelves up. The apartment is looking much better and I will be tackling the office next. She also took me out to sushi! She was a little iffy about it but she did like the eel.
Victoria, tell dork-o I said happy b-day. I'll try to call you tonight.

| Ok, you know that post about the car and headaches and my father? Well, Will is upset I didn't tell the whole story...
So, after I started to cry while trying to fix my car, Will came out and took the phone. He talked to my mom and fixed it! :D So then we went on our way to get ice cream for my headache and some especially yummy Whole Foods pizza. We got home and watched some Brisco County Jr. Unfortunately I think the rest of the night was wasted on me because headache never went away and got worse. :( But it was still very nice. I love you Will.
Now if only you could save me today. I didn't bring any food up with me to school and figured I would just buy it here. Well, the F-ing ATM is gone down in Pray-Harrold so I walked all the way to the First-Year's food court to use that ATM and guess what, not only is it being worked on but it's not EVEN MY BANK ANYMORE! The fuckers! I am SOOO incredibly pissed. Not only this, but practically no place on campus takes plastic and I'm here until 10 PM and I'm starving right now...
I think I'm going to skip class to go home and eat. :(

This time it's with big telecommunications and net neutrality. Make sure you check out the bogus commercial too. I am disgusted. The most unfortunate thing about this is that the general public is liable to accept this because they don't have time to fight it or they are uneducated. It's sad that a nation of people who pride themselves in being independent and free don't have the time or will to even fight to be treated decently anymore.
To give you an idea of what it will be like without neutrality here's a little snippet from the article above:
